Why does my dog have a bloody blister and discharge in his eye?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shorthaired Pointer (duplicate) | Male | neutered | 3 years and 9 months old

My dog has what looks like a small blood blister in the corner of his eye near his nose. Has some bloodyish eye boogers in that eye as well.

From your description, this could be something called a cherry eye (prolapsed tear gland), or could be a localized infection or injury to the eye or conjunctiva in this area. Since you are also seeing bloody discharge from the eye, I would recommend having Gus seen by a vet as soon as you are able to - he/she can examine the eye to determine the problem. If he has a cherry eye, it will need to be surgically corrected. If he has an injury or an infection, he will need prescription eye drops to treat it.

Sounds like Louie has an eye infection. Any eye problem has to be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Please have him seen by a vet first thing in the morning.
