My dog is on Prednisone and for the past 2 days has had liquid stools. Is prednisone causing this?

It would be unusual to see diarrhea as a side effect of prednisone, so I would suspect fat something else may be causing it. If your dog is acting normal otherwise, you can try withholding food for the next 12-24 hours and then feeding plain boiled chicken and white rice for the next few days. If this doesn't help, or if she develops any other symptoms such as vomiting, acting lethargic, or not wanting to eat, then I would recommend having her examined by a vet as she may have a more serious problem.

It is possible this is due to the prednisone. I would recommend starting her on some gastro protectants such as sucralfate and famotidine as well as a probiotic. We are not allowed to give dosages online so you will need to call your veterinarian. I hope she feels better!

Prednisone is a steroid, and steroids are known to cause GI ulcers, which could be the cause of the blood in Dodger's stool. Unfortunately the only thing you can do is take him back into the vet. The vet needs to be aware of this, and he may need a different medication as well as a gut protectant for any ulcers. I'd take him back into the vet first thing in the morning.

It could be either. To start, I would call your vet now about stopping the Prednisone. Some dogs can be sensitive to the steroids and it could be causing damage to the stomach/intestines. I would recommend taking Puppy to the vet for evaluation if the diarrhea last longer than 24 hours, or sooner if there is vomiting or lethargy. Other causes of bloody diarrhea could include bacterial or viral infection, HGE, IBD, intestinal parasites, among others.
