Why is my cat biting his paw and losing fur? Vet found no cause.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered

What is the problem with my cats paw? He is a male 1 yr old. We noticed about a month or two ago that he was biting his paw excessively and he started to show a loss of of fur. It eventually grew large so we took him to the vet. The vet Said it was probably a foxtail and she tried to clear it out. Unfortunately she didn't find any. His paw has continued to lose fur and now it is moving to his forearm. Is there anything we can do.

If there was no foreign body found and it is getting bigger irritating him, the next step would be to take a sample of it (biopsy) and have that evaluated to find the underlying cause. They may even culture it if it is infected still
