Why did my cat attack me after sniffing? Was it another pet's scent?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 9 years and 6 months old | 13.8 lbs

My cat last night was constantly sniffing me and out of no where he attacked me pretty aggressively, he was biting and everything. I was taken back and quite shocked as he is a family friendly cat and has never once attacked me before. He is an indoor cat and hates being left alone however I do recall being away from the house for a bit longer than usual, I also recall being around a family members dog last night and was wondering if that was what he was smelling.

It could be that Fitzy became suddenly scared or stressed. I would recommend trying felioway to help This is a cat pheromone that can decrease stress. Increasing toys for the cat and increasing play time will also help decrease stress. Sometimes cats will get built up energy and increasing play really helps.
