My dog is rubbing her head and walking sideways. Are her ears bothering her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 8 years and 5 months old | 4 lbs

Precious & I were laying down & then she got up & started rubbing her head all over the blanket like she does when she's playing in a spazz like motion & then got on the floor & she was like walking sideways in a weird way. I cleaned her ears (earlier I put ear wash in them & all of the debris didn't come out when she shook her head I guess & it was a bit stuck to her hairs) & then she stopped. was it just her ears irritating her? she's walking & jumping normally now

It could be that Precious had an itch that was irritating her or her ears could have been bothering her like you suggested. Rubbing her head all over the blanket could have caused her to be disoriented, leading to her walking sideways in a weird way. Given that she is walking and jumping normally now, I would monitor her and if this strange behavior returns and continues, then I would have her seen by a vet for a health check.
