Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 10 years and 5 months old | 19 lbs
My cat just got diagnosed with stress cystitis 2.5 weeks ago after a rushed trip to emergency vet. Now he has a uti, which is frustrating because I told my vets he was still straining and crying but it took me bringing in urine to get the diagnosis. Why is this happening to him now? He's 9/10 years old and very sensitive. Do these new health issues usually lead to snowballing into more and more health issues? I just want him to be okay and back to normal. Do pets die from this?

Urinary tract infections can occur for many different reasons, stress can lead to them or it can simply be that bacteria find a way to get up the urethra. Sometimes utis can be the start of other issues such as kidney problems or bladder stones, but most often they only effect the bladder. I would recommend you take steps to reduce stress such as buying a pheromone diffuser, you could have the urine checked for crystal and bloods ran to check the kidneys if you want additional piece of mind. No cats do not tend to die from cystitis itself.
