What can I do for my rescued dog's kidney, eye, and skin issues?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 32 lbs

I rescued a dog who was near death and starving. I found her on the side of the road in the Caribbean. They stated she has kidney failure and also has conjunctivitis (per my opinion). She also scratches a lot, to a point that she cuts herself. I don't have the resources for her on the island and could not bring her to the US due to her condition. Is there anything I can bring back for her to help her?

Kidney disease is best managed with a prescription diet as well as medications to help manage the side effects including antacids, calcitriol and sometimes blood pressure medications. All of these things would require a prescription from a veterinarian. If you feel she has conjunctivitis you can try keeping her eyes clean with a warm wet washcloth and potentially using a saline eye wash to rinse them out. If you feel her eyes are painful or if the condition is worsening she should be seen by a veterinarian.
