My cat got a double vaccine dose by mistake. Will she be okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | spayed | 4 years and 3 months old | 13.5 lbs

Hi, Our cat has to have her annual vaccine separated, so the first one is the Nobivac Tricat Trio and then the second 2 weeks later Nobivac Felv. She had the Nobivac Tricat Trio 2 weeks ago and was supposed to have the Nobivac Felv today, however she has been given the full vaccine by mistake today. So in effect she has had the Tricat Trio twice in 2 weeks and the full vaccine which is normally separated anyway. I am a little concerned, do you think she will be ok? Thanks, Andy

Hello there, this is an unfortunate situation. The vaccines are very safe so Betty shouldn't be in anybgrave danger, if she gets them separated because she is sensitive to the vaccine you may find she has some symptoms. She may be a life dopey and dull and possibly sick. However she shouldn't have any long term issues. I would make her nice and comfy and let her get a good rest. If you notice her becoming sick visit your vet in case she does have a reaction.

I would highly doubt Betty would have any issues. Cats can have allergic reactions to vaccines but they are pretty rare. If at anytime you see Betty having vomiting, diarrhea or lethargic I would take her to a vet. You could administer Benadryl by mouth 2 times a day to help decrease her risk of reaction. I am sorry this happened to Betty!
