How to introduce 6-month-old sibling kittens to roam freely outside?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 5 months and 29 days old

I have 2 nearly 6 minth old kittens who have only been outside individually on cat harness and lead, both desexed, microchipped and vaccinated, i got them at nearly 3 minths old. What id like to know how and when is the best way to introduce to outside, freely...and one at a time or both at same time. They are siblings, male and female Georgie

Great question! Given that they are about six months old, you can start introducing them to the outside now. It's fine to do them together at the same time, and I would start by letting them outside on their own with you monitoring for 10-15 minutes, and then slowly increasing the time they are allowed outside over the next couple of weeks. I would recommend having them indoors at night and only letting them out during the day. Nighttime is when there can be lots of fights with cats and predators will come out at night, so it will be safer for them to be indoors then.
