No, lease do not give any over the counter meds and definitely no oatmeal. withhold food for 8 hours and then offer him boneless boiled chicken and rice every 6 hours in small quantities, if the diarrhoea is getting better continue for 2-3 days with this diet. if it is not getting better- take him to the vet to get treated.

Yes it is. As a first approach I usually suggest to to withhold food for the next 8 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Poor Doggy! I would fast him for 12-24 hours and with hold water for 6 hours. If there is no vomiting in the 6 hours only offer water in small amounts. If he tolerates the water, no vomiting, then you can restart feeding at the 12-24 hour mark with a bland do\iet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day until 2 normal stools. If at anytime he restarts vomiting or won't eat he needs to see a Vet. Causes of vomiting and diarrhea are: intestinal parasites, viral (especially parvo) and bacterial infections, dietary indiscretion, toxin ingestion, pancreatitis, food allergy/intolerance or a reaction to a new food/treat/human food. Most of the time we never find the exact cause. Pepto is a human drug and is used in animals off label. If he is vomiting severely and won't hold down water he may just vomit up oral medications. I do not prersonally prescribe pepto for my patients. Below is a link about pepto. If you end up going to the Vet please tell them that you gave pepto as the tablet shows up on X-ray and looks like a metal coin. Good luck! https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/dog/pepto-bismol/
