Is high protein food causing my pet's vomiting and bloody diarrhea?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Female | spayed | 5 years old | 17 lbs

Can high protein cause vomiting and bloody diherea in pets? This isn't a question about my dog but about these symptoms and if it is related to high protein? I was reading some reviews of a high protein food on chewy and someone said this happened to their dog and they believe it was due to the high protein. can you please explain your answer. Thanks!

Any changes in diet can cause gastrointestinal upsets, many dietary sensitivities can be protein related (not to protein levels but individual ingredients) and high protein levels can aggravate kidney disease and nausea. Within reason, higher protein levels are well tolerated by most dogs but some individuals may react for many different reasons
