Why are my dogs sneezing and coughing again after antibiotics?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 60 lbs

So I got a new puppy and have have another dog as well. Puppy started sneezing and come coughing. Couple days later my other dog started with the same symptoms. They both had nasle congestion and runny noses. I put them both on doxy antibiotics and puppy got better first like fully recovered. Shortly after so did my other dog. No throwing up to diarrhea, they both eat, and drink water, play and normal selfs. Now they are sneezing again! Can they get common cold again?

It sounds like they had a touch of kennel cough which is like dog flu. What can happen when treating with antibiotics that if the course finishes too soon it can make them better but hasn't completely killed the bugs then it recurs. I would visit your vet as you may need a longer course or different antibiotic.
