My puppy has pus neck sores. Can I treat them or does she need a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 7 days old | 1lb

My new puppy has 2 pus filled sores in her neck about 2 inches below her ear. I just got her sunday, and am not sure if this warrants a vet visit or if I can treat it at home. She weighs 1 lb. It does not seem to bother her, have been treating sore with peroxide and cortisone 10 creme.

These look pretty deep. I think you are doing a great job treating them at home. You should change the cortisone to neosporin though to help with the infection. I am afraid that she is going to need some oral antibiotics especially if they aren't improving. I would contact your vet for an exam and oral medicine to help it heal up. I hope this helps.
