Why does my dog's deep wound still smell bad after antibiotics?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Male | neutered | 3 years and 11 months old | 25 lbs

Any idea what this could be? It's quite deep, I saw a vet she swiped if it will water and gave him some antibiotics, it smells very bad but I only noticed it today as he is very fluffy

This appears to be an infected wound. It looks like it has been caused by some sort of penetrating object. The antibiotics should start to kick in and sort the infection. You can clean the outside with warm water that has been boiled. If it is not improving go back to the vet in case there is a foreign body inside it.
