A wild bird fell and looks injured. Is it dying or resting?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi a bird (a common swift) fell on the ground, one of my neighbors after giving him some water had the good idea of throwing it in the air because it can't fly from the ground, the bird did fly to a tree stayed a bit then fell on its back with it's eyes open and kept breathing and moving it's head,is he dying? Or is he resting? The tree is too high so i can't reach him , apparently he had some blood on when he fell, but I was wondering if a bird could have a heart attack because he was thrown?

He may be stressed or injured. Without an exam, it is difficult to determine. Monitor it as best as you can. If he falls out of the tree, place him in a soft, padded box or cage until he recovers. You can also contact a local veterinarian and ask if they know of or work with a wildlife specialist that could examine, treat and eventually release the bird.
