Why are my pet mice being aggressive and eating their cage mates?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My mice keep eating other mice. 3 days ago my mom bought 2 mice. One mouse ate the other, and of course I'm always the one to find the dead animals. Then last year, we bought 6 mice and one mouse kept eating the others, I separated him from the others and it stopped, but why do they keep eating each other? They have food, and water, and hay (hay and water at all times) and each 2 big pellets, and since there feeders, we don't give them the proper stuff they need.

Mice can be very aggressive and they cannot always be kept together in captivity, it's not about the food, it could be that the cage is too small or just one very aggressive individual that is starting the all thing every time, you need to separate them completely.
