My usually quiet cat is suddenly meowing a lot. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My cat, all of a sudden, just seems to be meowing a lot. He rubs up against me and meows. He's usually very quiet. He will show me what he wants if I get up and follow him. I fed him, held him, brushed him and let him outside. All of the usual things that he might want. But he still comes back and meows - it isn't exactly whining, just meowing. Like I said, he is usually very quiet.

IT is possible Norman is trying to communicate with you he is not feeling well. I would recommend continue to monitor his behavior. If he is eating, drinking and using his litter box well I would just keep a close eye on him. However if he stops eating, has vomiting/diarrhea or continues to vocalized I would take him to a vet for an exam. Sometimes a vet can find an issue on a exam that we cannot detect at home.
