Why does my Yorkie have a hard, black, itchy spot on his neck?

Noticed hard round black flattish but raised and rough lesion on my dogs neck. No hair loss but has been itchy. He is a yorkie 3 years old. We have lived in spain for nearly 2 years. Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 3 months old | 2.5 lbs

This could be a cyst, an infection, plaque or even a skin tumor like a melanoma. Masses that grow suddenly, change in color/size/are painful are more concerning than those that do not change. The only way to know for sure what this mass is would be for your veterinarian to do an exam and potentially biopsy it. I do not recommend applying any ointment or other medication yet as it could be harmful depending on what it is.
