Hello, my dog Shorty is a 17 year old chihuhua mix and this past weekend she started having really bad diarrhea. Started off like normal mushy brown diarrhea and now it will come out in less amounts but dark and with bright red blood. She did defecate one firm stool but then the dark bloody diarrhea continued, she hasn't defeated since yesterday. She's been eating canned dog food and sometimes chicken with veggies and rice, she still eats well, but about 2 days prior she ate a weener sausage

It seems as Shorty is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material or a tumor in the intestines. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an antibiotic course and a special food for a few days in order to get better.
