Can I give my dog with bladder stones apple cider vinegar and cranberry pills?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cocker Spaniel | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 7 months old | 21 lbs

My 2 1/2 year old male cocker has bladder stones, his test results say he needs to be more acidic. His count was 6, and needs to be 8. Change of diet from Fromm food to Royal Canine plus amoxi. Q - can I add apple cider vinegar to his food and water plus cranberry pills? Thanks, Vicki

No, I do not recommend giving Joker apple cider vinegar. In healthy dogs, a small amount isn't going to cause any harm, but in dogs who currently aren't healthy, it can harmful effects. There also isn't any data that it's helpful to dogs who have bladder stones. As for the cranberry pills, again there's no proof they any beneficial effects on dogs and while it won't harm him, it won't help either. I would recommend making sure he drinks lots of water, and it's fine to add water to his food.
