Why is my senior dog coughing erratically? Could it be heart failure?

Pet's info: Dog | Cairn Terrier | Male | neutered | 14 years and 5 months old

erratic cough when stands from sleeping. Return from mountains, much worse. Thought was allergies but too erratic. No mucus.

Due to the age of your dog i would suspect a heart condition, probably heart failure, you need to take Zia to the vet ASAP in order to get checked and have an xray done, this should confirm or rule out my suspicion.
