Pet's info: Dog | Dogo Argentino | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 5 months old | 85 lbs
My male dogo argentino American pitbull terrier mix zues who is 2and a half is a very active dog. He is very muscular and eats well but he is so active that he is still to skinny with his ribs showing. What can I do to make him gain weight to be at a healthier size and weight.

Increase the amount of food being fed by about 50% until he reaches an appropriate weight and body condition. You can also switch to a "performance" diet which will typically be higher in protein, carbs and fat for active or sporting dogs.

I am sorry that Beast is a little thin. The ideal weight of a dog should be where you can easily feel his ribs but you cannot see them by just looking at them. Also they should have a waist when you look down on them and from the side (it should have a curve from the chest to the abdomen). So unless you are seeing ribs or hip bones then I would not change his diet. If he is truly thin then I would increase the amount of dog food that you are feeding him and you can also add some plain boiled chicken (no bones, no skin, no butter/seasonings) over his food to help increase his calories.

First off, I would check with your vet to make sure that he actually does need to gain weight. I often see dogs that are a very healthy weight but the owners think that their dog needs to gain weight because they are used to seeing overweight dogs. A good rule of thumb is that in short-haired dogs you should be able to actually see the last rib in the rib cage, not just be able to feel ribs. If your vet does indeed think Blue is too thin, he/she may be able to recommend a good high quality prescription diet like Royal Canin High Energy that is designed to provide increased calories without causing digestive problems.

Thin is good. As long as she has a shiny coat, plenty of energy and her ribs can be felt but are not showing she’s fine. Blue Buffalo food is very high in calories so you may want to try that. Also adding in another meal may help as often dogs don’t want to eat a large amount at each meal. Having her spayed and limiting her exercise will both generally add weight to a thin dog.
