What to feed a sick senior cat refusing food before the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 7 lbs

Friday I noticed a little bit of a runny tummy. I saw some yesterday and a little throw up. Today BW is refusing to eat. He ate a couple treats and licked some gravy but won't eat the actual food. He was a stray we took in and our vet says he's a pretty old cat. He is also doing something strange with his tongue sticking it out and licking his nose a lot. He's going to the vet first thing in the morning, but I want to see if there is anything I can do to help him until then. Thank you.

BW may have tooth pain or could be nauseous. I recommend giving him canned food which you can water down and make into a gravy, scrambled eggs, low fat cottage cheese, or chicken. I'm glad he will be seeing the vet tomorrow and hopefully they can help him feel better!
