Dog feverish and sluggish after shots. Is it normal or an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | neutered | 7 years and 1 month old | 11 lbs

My dog got a leptospirosis and DA2PP vaccination today as well as a heartworm test and is now feverish and sluggish. Is this abnormal and should we seek emergency treatment?

Hi. Yes, this can be normal. I would monitor her thru the evening. I would also make sure the fever isn't above 103 rectally. If there is vomiting, diarrhea, hives, trouble breathing, get him in right away. Good question. Good luck.
