Can I use Neosporin on my pet's large wound or does it need a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Male | unneutered | 9 months and 17 days old | 20 lbs

What would the cost to fix a wound like this be at a veterinary? I am going to apply Neosporin to the wound to see if it helps.

Such a large wound should be stitched urgently by your vet. Delaying treatment may prevent a simple closure and risk further pain, infection and scarring. You would have to contact your local clinics, humane societies and charities for an estimate of cost and possible help in relation to same. Prices vary between clinics and locations, Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach is a worldwide network of advisers and not a clinic
