My boy Bear gets a kind of whistle in his throat when he has done a lot of running or chasing his ball. He's had this for a year or two, the Vet has checked him out and says he is fine and not to worry about it, but I do nonetheless. He never coughs or has any other symptoms and within a few minutes of rest it stops completely. what found cause this thanks? Secondly, he is getting slightly snappy with strangers, maybe his aging do you think? He's very possessive of his house and me! Many thanks

This mild whistling is very common and normal at peak exercise. It should be investigated with sedation, throat exam and xrays if it worsens, causes him distress or any coughing or difficulty swallowing arises but other than that it should be no cause for concern. MAny dogs can become more temperamental as they age and you should be careful not to react or encourage such behavior by drawing attention to it and talking to him and indirectly praising his actions. Firmly ask him to sit/wait/lie or otherwise break his focus if you see any triggers arising
