My indoor cat has dry, raised skin sores. What's causing them?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 3 years and 7 months old | 18 lbs

My male whose three and is fixed, has small dry skin sores. I have found one on his chest and a couple on his back legs. He is mostly an inside cat except when I take him out on a leash. They are raised, so I think it could be a tick but when I get through his fur to look it's just a raised dry looking spot.

Poor Tiger. Is he itchy? If so, these dry spots could be scabs or sores from allergies. Make sure he doesn't have any fleas and he is on a good flea preventative. You could try an adult Benadryl twice a day to help if this is allergy related. Unfortunately he could also have a bacterial infection so if it isn't improving I would talk to your vet about an exam and possible antibiotics if needed. I hope this helps!
