My cat is losing weight near her back end but acts normal. Is it worms?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 2 years old | 0 lbs

I have a cat that is just losing a little bit of weight near his back end. But, she still acts the same exact way. Is this normal? A friend told me it could be worms. So, I bought drops and put them in her food 2 days ago.

Based on the photos, Ella appears to be a healthy weight - however, any unexplained weight loss is always worth investigating. Your friend is correct that worms can cause weight loss. Other possibilities include decreased appetite, vomiting, increased activity, or possibly something more serious. It would be ideal to establish care with a veterinarian so that you can start a log of her weight over time, to determine how much she is losing. Your veterinarian can check a fecal sample for parasites and perform any additional tests as needed.
