What is this film on my puppy's eye? Is it blind or can it see?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | unspayed | 14 days old | 1lb

This puppy is 2 weeks old today. It had an eye infection of some kind, 6/15/17, pictured first with bulging eye and crust. I did warm damp rag wipes gently to try and free the irritation. It opened its eye on its own on 6/17/ and swelling went down, pictured 2nd. I noticed on 6/20 it had a film patch on its eyeball. It doesn't move, it looks marbled, pictured last. What I'm asking is my puppy blind or is this something that can be removed and have a chance at normal vision??

It looks like your puppy has a congenital cataract. This is a hardening of the lens that begins during fetal life. Congenital cataracts may be inherited or secondary to other developmental abnormalities of the eye. Because of a possible genetic component, I would recommend having all your puppies examined by a veterinarian or a veterinary ophthalmologist. Depending on the underlying cause of the cataract, surgery to remove the cataract or possibly remove the eye may be needed. You can find a veterinary ophthalmologist in your area on www.acvo.org.
