Will my Standard Poodle puppy be small as an adult if its mom is tiny?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello, we are looking at Standard poodle pups at a breeder. The mom (Lilly) is on the small side at 35 lbs and the father is about 75 lbs and looks very much like a Standard should look. It is hard to tell about the mother, for she is nursing 9 pups and the owners have her groomed (self) in dredlocks with a bushy face. My question is about the breeding of two sizes. With the mother much smaller, the breeder thinks the pups will reach about 60lbs. Should I be concerned? Their price is 1,000 doll

The breed standard for a bitch is between 46 and 71 pounds approximately, she sounds quite small. I would check her papers and make sure she is KC registered as a standard poodle. It is very hard to know what size the puppies will reach, so I would only consider buying one if you could accept it possibly being on the small side.
