My dog has blood around his rectum and white worms in his stool. Why?

Pet's info: Dog | Great Dane | Male | neutered | 4 years and 7 months old | 175 lbs

ive a great dane he had blood around his rectum not showing any signs of distress this morning he had a bowl movement and their was some white flat worms in it he has never had worms before and this was his first with worms im not sure what kind they are

Poor Scooby!! Flat white worms on the stool sounds like tapeworms. I would recommend taking a sample of the stool and worms to your vet; they can more positively identify the worms and also check the stool sample under the microscope to see if any other parasites are present. Tapeworm medication is not typically available over the counter, and usually requires a vet visit. I also recommend discussing flea preventatives with your vet as often these are the source of a tapeworm problem.
