My baby rabbit is leaving red/orange puddles. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Chip is only a few weeks old and we have only had him about 3 days. We have been waking up to find red/ orange puddles beside of his cage. Most of the puddles are only liquid but one of this morning's puddles look as if it may have a few tiny clups in it, and it looks a little thicker than the others. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Poor little Chip! It looks like he has some bad diarrhea, or possibly bloody urine, but my guess is diarrhea. Rabbits can get very dehydrated from diarrhea very quickly and can even die if not treated promptly. There is frequently an infectious cause (bacterial or viral) to their diarrhea so he will require fluid therapy and likely antibiotics right away. Find either a veterinarian who will see rabbits or an emergency veterinarian immediately to give him the best possible chance. Good luck and all the best to little Chip!
