My cat has blood in urine, tumor suspected. What's the next step?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 11 years and 9 months old | 17 lbs

My cat started having blood in urine about 8 months ago. First diagnosed with uti then urinary stress and after more tests, they think it's a tumor but the vet is not sure because the image doesn't look like a typical tumor. The vet says they can do a biopsy to find out for sure. My cat has been put on different antibiotics to help with the bleeding and it has. Vet says we can try anti inflammatory meds but it could cause kidney problems. I'm not sure what the best route to take. Please help!

You could take your cat to an internal medicine veterinary specialist for an ultrasound and/or other diagnostics to help get a definitive diagnosis. A specialist has more training then a regular veterinarian so may be able to read the ultrasound better. If you can't do that then you could try the anti-inflammatory and see if that helps. Your vet can monitor kidney function while on the anti-inflammatory. Hope she gets better soon.
