My cats mate often but no pregnancy. Is this normal or unhealthy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Female | 4 years and 3 months old | 4 lbs

My cat and tom are constantly mating about 6 to 7 times a day but not able to concieve. They both mated for the first time a month back, then my cat was on heat but still she is not expecting. Is the mating again and again fine for the health of my cat ? Should I keep them separately ? Will they stop mating automatically when she will become pregnant ?

This is normal. You can separate them for a few hours a day then reintroduce them to help build anticipation. But yes it is common for them to mate multiple times during her heat cycle. They will stop once she gets pregnant or when she goes out of heat. If this is their first time to try or if he is young, she may not get pregnant the first heat cycle. I hope this helps!
