Why is my cat hiding, scared, and vomiting? Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 3 years and 2 months old

Good afternoon, My cat started acting paranoid yesterday and spent the rest of the day hiding from place to place like she was scared of something. When she's in a secluded spot she acts normal and lets me pet her. This alone might mean that she's just having a bad day but this morning she vomited, this being the third time in seven days, so I would like to hear the opinion of a professional - is she just stressed out or is she ill? Is going to the vet necessary?

Hiding behavior such as you describe can indicate that a cat is not feeling well. That in conjunction with the vomiting in the last week makes me concerned that there could be something going on with Rudy. I would recommend that you have her seen by your veterinarian. They will examine her and may recommend blood work or x-rays to get a better idea what's going on. Please keep in mind that cats that go more than a few days without eating can become very ill very quickly.
