My dog won't eat dry food but still eats treats. Is it the heat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Male | neutered | 8 years and 11 months old | 8 lbs

My dachshund hasn't been eating as much of his dry food as usual-could it be that it's been rather warm here and he's just off his food? He still likes his alpo dog treat

Heat can definitely affect a dog's appetite. As long as Alfie is acting normally, is not vomiting or having diarrhea and is eating over half his normal food it should be ok for a few days. You can try feeding him earlier in the morning or indoors to see if that helps.
