Why does my dog have a white pimple with a red ring behind his ear?

My 5 year old GSD has behind his ear what looks like a white raised pimple with a red ring. Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | neutered | 11 years old | 94 lbs

Without a picture, it's difficult to accurately determine the cause of Hogan's issues. Based upon your description, some common causes of these types of lesions include bacterial skin infections (often a result of underlying allergies), ringworm or mange. Make sure that Hogan is receiving a high quality flea and tick preventative (such as Nexgard, Bravecto or Advantix) regularly. You can also try cleaning the area with an antiseptic (chlorhexidine or betadine) solution. If the issue persists, Hogan will need to go to his vet for further evaluation. I hope that all goes well!
