Is it safe for my cat to drink sump pump water? Why does he do it?

My cat age 16 has been drinking water from the sump pump in the basement and hasn't eaten dinner. He got sick the last time he did this and ignored his food. I tried to give him fresh water but he ignores it. Why is he drinking sump pump water and is it safe for him? Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 8 lbs

Unfortunately many cats drink from places they shouldn't, it's just the way they do things. i would recommend blocking the way to the sump pump water if it is possible and buy him an electric fountain to drink from, cats usually love them.
