How to clean and care for a nursing dog's sore nipple and feed pups?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed

my dog is breast feeding and some how one f the puppies slit the skin right to her nipple. there is a small flap of skin however it's an abrasion that concerns me she is bleeding in the wound but nothing major. how do i clean and care for it? how do i get the puppies to feed?

You can use a clean washcloth to gently remove any debris and keep the nipple clean. Monitoring the puppies and moving them to a different nipple when they try to nurse is also best to help the area heal. If it becomes infected, oozing debris, smelling, red and hot to the touch, etc, it needs to be seen by a vet to be more thoroughly cleaned and treated with antibiotics.
