Why is one side of my dog's neck droopy and swollen with fluid?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 years and 10 months old

One side of my dogs neck/throat has become droopy and I have no idea why. It doesn't feel hot nor does it feel like any mass inside - just feels like extra skin with fluid inside? She doesn't appear to be in pain when I touch it. The other side is normal. I gave her about 30 mg of benadryl but the "swelling" did not subside. Any ideas of what's going on or how to get it to return to normal?

You can try a warm compress every 6-8 hours to see if that helps the swelling decrease. It may be from an insect sting or bite. If it doesn't resolve in a couple of days or gets worse I recommend taking Maisy to the vet to make sure something more serious isn't causing the swelling.
