My senior dog has a bleeding tumor. What are non-surgical options?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 15 years and 1 month old | 72 lbs

Jack is a 15yo yellow lab weighing in at 30kilos. He takes Metacam for his back legs. He has various internal lumps which my vet is not worried about. He has an external black/brown bulge, which has grown to the size of a walnut in 12 months. He has knocked it on a couple of occasions and it has bled. It doesn't seem to cause him pain. I use a sterile spray and keep it covered with a tubular bandage. Is there anything else I can do apart from an operation to remove it?

Unfortunately there isn't really any way to shrink or remove a tumor without surgery, I have had some veterinarians have some luck in helping to stop bleeding from tumors with a Chinese medicine called yunnan baiyao. I would ask your vet if they feel this would be useful for your dog if the tumor is bleeding.
