My dog's veins are visible during heat. Is this normal or concerning?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 8 years and 4 months old | 4 lbs

Do dogs have veins or something (even the drawn purple lines are) that get more noticeable through touch? She's ending her heat cycle. Is this something I should be worried about?

Yes, dogs have arteries and veins that can become more visible when they are excited (higher blood pressure) or during heat cycle. The veins that you have highlighted are carrying blood from the mammary glands and can be more prominent while in Precious is in heat. These are not a cause for concern. :-)
