My dog got sick from flea drops. Does he need flea control if he swims daily?

My 75 lb retriever/Labrador mix seemed lethargic and depressed after I used Advantage II flea control drops. He swims in our pool every day. Do I absolutely need to use flea control on him? Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 2 years and 9 months old | 75 lbs

River looks like quite a character! I would recommend using some form of flea control on him as fleas are difficult to get rid of once their in that house and some pets can have an allergic reaction to their bites. If River did not react well to the advantage he may do better with a chewable product such as Bravecto (available with a prescription from your veterinarian) or a high quality flea collar like seresto (available over the counter)
