How much water does a sick 8-week-old kitten need to avoid dehydration?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 18 days old | 0.5 lbs

I have a sick orphaned kitten that Im caring for but not allowed to let her inside the house. It's very hot where I live I try my best to give her water by srynge and give her kittens canned food, she's around 8 weeks old and less than 2 lb. I wanted to know how much water should I aim to give her to prevent dehydration. We are trying to help her recover from parasites. I am giving her about 15 ml (5 ml every 3 hours) plus canned food is this enough? Please and thank you

It sounds like you are doing an amazing job! If she is eating canned food well, you can also add some water to her canned food to help her take in more water. Her daily maintenance amount of water should be around 2 ounces or 1/4 cup at minimum. If it is really hot she may want more. Also make sure you have a fresh bowl of water out for her - they usually will drink want they want. Just keep in mind she is getting water from her canned food so she may not drinking as much as you think she should. I hope this helps!
