Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Female | spayed | 11 lbs
My rescued Jack Russell gets diarrhea regularly every 6 to 8 weeks, with blood in the stool. In between she is perfectly fine....no diet changes etc. But this happens with regularity and lasts one to two days, with no appetite on those days. Possible causes?

Lucy could have a mild case of inflammatory bowel disease, a food intolerance, or an intermittent infection. The blood is somewhat concerning. I recommend discussing with your veterinarian if they would like to do any tests on Lucy or any medication. Your veterinarian may do this via a phone consultation or may require an exam first.

If this signs are intermittent and persistent, a gastrointestinal infection or inflammation due to food intolerance is possible. A check up, bland diet trial (hypoallergenic or exclusion) and some antibiotics may be indicated to confirm one of these clinical suspicions and solve the problem. Fecal analysis may be necessary as well. Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.
