Poor Maui!! I would recommend that you find out exactly what type of gum it was, and then call your vet clinic or the pet poison hotline. Gum often contains 'fake' sugars which can be harmful to dogs and the symptoms can range from hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) to significant liver damage. Your vet or the pet poison hotline can help you determine if any treatment is needed. Sometimes these ingestions require hospitalization, IV fluids and medications, and bloodwork both during the hospital stay and afterwards to ensure the liver is continuing to function properly. And remember, just because your dog seems to be acting find doesn't mean they aren't getting sick on the inside. With gum ingestion we sometimes don't know about it until it's too late, so please find out more information.
