Why is my dog refusing dry food but begging for treats and human food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | neutered | 5 months and 17 days old

My dog has started being fussy with his dry food, he gets meat for his last meal and two sets of dry food during the day and has been getting fed snacks/treats/bones/chicken throughout the day. Lately he will leave the dry food in his bowl for hours before eating it and will only eat it all if I'm eating infront of him. He has no trouble eating any other food/bones/solids and begs for any food I eat. Is this because he knows he gets other food during the day that are tastier? Or something else

Tua likely prefers the treats and other food over the dry food. I recommend reducing the bones/meats/treats during the day to get him to eat his dry food. This is to ensure he's getting balanced minerals and vitamins as treats are not meant for maintenance food for dogs unlike formulated dry food.
