Why hasn't my dog shed his winter coat? He's hot. What can I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 10 years and 9 months old | 54 lbs

My dog hasnt shed his winter coat yet (it's mid June) and I was wondering if that is normal? We moved from the country to the city, and we live in a cool (temperature wise) apartment so I am wondering if that has something to do with it. He is really hot during our walks, and I'm not sure what to do. Thanks!

The move could affect his coat. You could try bathing him in the Furminator shampoo followed by Furminator brushing to remove hair (be careful as you can over groom). If this or other skin issues develops Cooper should be examined by his veterinarian to make sure he doesn't have an underlying thyroid issue.
