My dog with kidney failure hasn't urinated. When to see vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 13 years and 7 months old

Has not urinated since 6pm yesterday. Very unusual as she has kidney failure and urinates very frequently(including wakes me up multi times in the night to go out). No signs of discomfort or urgency to urinate. Is this a concern? Should she go to the Vet first thing in the morning?

I would have her evaluated just to be safe. Since she is in kidney failure you want to make sure that she continues to be able to produce urine. If you notice she keeps uncomfortable and is straining to urinate with nothing being produced, she should be seen by an emergency veterinary hospital as she may have a urinary blockage. Continue to monitor her appetite, attitude, and water intake while you wait to have her seen.
