Can a pet's ovarian cysts heal naturally without surgery or treatment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Exotic | Unknown - Exotic | Female | 2.19 lbs

Hello. Tazy was diagnosed with ovarian cysts about 1 year and a half ago. We don't know her age (she is a rescue), the vet told us she is around 4-5 years old, too old for surgery. She lost most of her hair (except the one on her head and front legs and a little left on her butt) and the buldges on her belly became pretty obvious. But recently her hair started to grow back and now she has a beautifull fluffy belly. Can cysts heal on their own? She is very active and has a healthy apetite. Thx!!

Cysts may rupture and resolve on their own, but this is rare. Usually, a cyst will rupture causing pain, infection and may kill. As stated, the gold standard for treatment is to spay her. If this is not an option, your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating pocket pets may be able to aspirate the cyst using ultrasound. You can also discuss hormone therapy with your veterinarian.
